Carla kuaiwa, owner/Managing director

Carla Kuaiwa is the founder and managing director of CK Cross Consulting, Inc., a veteran-owned small business. CK Cross Consulting focuses on small and medium size organizations, creating customized HR Systems and Designs to meet their unique needs and Organization Development Interventions to solve existing inefficiencies. In large organizations, CK Cross Consulting assists in department-specific and enterprise-wide projects. She has worked with different industries, such as Healthcare, Oil & Gas, Engineering, Architecture, Non Profits, and Education.


As an Organization Development Practitioner, Carla has developed and facilitated multiple leadership training, such as Servant Leadership, Change Management, and Performance Management. She is an expert in diagnosing organizational issues and implementing OD interventions to solve problems. She is also certified in multiple leadership and personality assessments, such as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Thomas-Killman Conflict Mode Instrument, Change Acceleration Process, and DiSC Profile.


As a Human Resources Professional, Carla has been involved in multiple projects from start-ups to complex organizations with over 20,000 employees. Carla has used her unique experience to create a HR structure, from Recruitment, Employee Development to systematic Succession Planning.


Carla worked for Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston from 2003 to 2016 where she led multiple complex projects in Organization Development, Human Resources, Community Relations, and Business Development. Prior to Memorial Hermann, Carla served in the US Air Force for 13 years. During her tour as a Military Training Instructor, Carla was heavily involved in curriculum and leadership development for both the US Air Force and US Navy. She became a master instructor, training and on-boarding incoming instructors. Prior to leaving the military in 2003, Carla earned a dual Master’s in HR Management and Organization Development.


Carla is dedicated to serving the Greater Houston community. She is a founding Board Member of SoleAna Stables, which provides Equine Therapy to individuals with special needs ranging from Autism, Multiple Sclerosis to Down Syndrome to PTSD. She is a Board Member of Asian Pacific American Heritage Association (APAHA), which enhances racial harmony in Houston, promoting cross-cultural awareness, education, and appreciation between and among Asian Pacific Americans. She is a member of the Greater Houston Partnership, Asian Chamber of Commerce, Houston Metropolitan Chamber, OCA Houston Chapter, and Women's Voice for Better America. Finally, she volunteers at Free the Captives, an organization that fights teen sex trafficking in Houston.


​She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Psychology, a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and a Master's Degree in Organization Development and Human Resources. She has been married since 1994 and has two children attending Texas A&M in College Station.


Carla was recognized as one of the "2016 Top 50 Influential Women in Houston" by Houston Woman Magazine and one of the "2017 Top 30 Influential Women in Houston" by D-Mars. She is also a Senior Fellow of American Leadership Forum Class 44
